Jackson Soucie has committed to playing double duty in 2021.  Jackson will play on both the Flying Squirrels as well as the St. Louis Bandits out of St. Louis, Missouri.  The Bandits https://thebandits.org/ are a high level scout team comprised of high school seniors from across North America. 

Being a part of this team will allow Jackson to be challenged against the best hitters from all over the USA, Puerto Rico and Canada, in tournaments such as the PBR World Series and Perfect Game World Series, among other highly recruited showcase tournaments throughout the USA.  Jackson will continue to train and compete with the Flying Squirrels however will travel to tournaments with the Bandits as they are scheduled.  This non-traditional path to being recruited is applauded by the Flying Squirrels and takes a tremendous amount of courage, confidence and competitive fire to take this leap forward.

The Grand River Flying Squirrels were borne from a desire to pursue both individual and team goals to play at our highest levels, without overspending.  The Flying Squirrels are an independant youth tournament baseball team, based out of the Waterloo region and playing across Ontario and the Great Lakes regions of the USA. 

We have a work ethic like a Flying Squirrel - to be pesky, scrappy and fight for our morsels.  To be industrious, hard working and on the constant hunt for our goals.  To be fun loving enough to enjoy the journey and support each team mate along the way.  Isn't that what youth sports is supposed to be about?  In the Flying Squirrels nest, its how we play, how we think and how we work.  And, like a Flying Squirrel - we soar when we put it all together.

We are operating the team on a non-profit basis, coaches are not paid, and the team has a parent council that approves all purchases and meets regularly.  We are transparent, in the sense you can see where the money goes, but also that the players are respected and given equal opportunity to learn, play, develop and achieve their personal goals.  The distinction and signature of this team is the character of its athletes.

You want to be GOOD?  Just show up, that's all it takes.  Want to get BETTER?  Put some effort into it, you will get better.  Want to be BEST?  Well, that takes work, hard work always pays off, you cannot beat out other great players by simply showing up, or the basics of getting better - you have to work, and work hard.

There are Pros and Cons to any program, we are focused on development, training and performance.  We think with the end in mind.  We are not perfect, but we are transparent.  We're not all inclusive but we are the lowest cost travel club in Ontario, and we win.
